The Civitan Club of Salisbury was chartered on August 15th 1922;
the 80th club to charter in Civitan International.
We are the home club of the 1974 International President MM (Chub) Richards, 
and 5 past Governors, including 2000 District Governor C. Wayne Mullis.   

The list of Presidents contains some of the most prominent names 
in the county over the last 87 years. (See Page 6). 
           

        The club meets almost every Thursday, from 12:00pm to 1:30pm at the Country Club of Salisbury, Club Drive, Salisbury, North Carolina.  Lunch is buffet style, available from 12:00pm to 12:45pm.  Meetings are called to order at about 12:45pm, and guest speakers have from about 1:00pm to 1:25pm to speak, allowing a further 5minutes for questions. Meetings must end by 1:30pm.

Salisbury NC is 20 miles from Statesville (Highway 70 West). 
It takes 50 minutes  to reach central Charlotte (45 miles on I-85 South), (traffic jams permitting)
or Greensboro (50 miles on I-85 North), 
&
about 45 minutes to get to Winston Salem.  (Highway 52 North)
It's less than 2 hours to Chapel Hill, Boone, Spartanburg SC, or Danville Va.  
Rowan County population is approx 128,000, of which 27,000 live in the County Seat of Salisbury.
Rowan County is 520 square miles, of which the City of Salisbury is 18 square miles.

                                 Major Projects, and Fund Raisers

Our major fund raisers are our Spaghetti Feast, which involves about 75 of our 110 members, who cook for 3 days to serve 2,500 customers for Lunch and Dinner about the first Friday in May each year. We serve Spaghetti with our own secret meat sauce recipe, salad, bread, drink, and dessert for 7 bucks. Of course we scrounge most of the ingredients for free or near free. 

And our Golf Classic, now in its 32nd year. Our goal is $12,000 net profit. Limited to the first 144 players. Most of our profit comes from sponsorships. 

          We award nine scholarships per year totaling over $12,000. 

1) The Michael Yang Memorial Civitan Scholarship, to a Senior at West Rowan High.

2)  The Mort Lerner Memorial Civitan Scholarship, to a Senior at Salisbury High.

3) The Clifford Peeler Humanitarian Scholarship, presented to a senior 
    at either Salisbury, North, West, or North Hills Christian, High Schools.

4) & 5) The Dr. Walter Low Tatum Scholarships in Nursing, presented
             to two Nursing Students at Rowan Cabarrus Community College

6) The Dr. Jack Knox Scholarship in Education, to an Education Major
    
at Livingstone College

7) The John Nelson Haden Scholarship in Music,  to a Music Major at Catawba College.

8) The Reverend Milton B Faust Scholarship in Education, presented 
    to a student in the Teacher Education Program at Catawba College

9) In addition, our club initiated an endowed scholarship to honor club member 
Marion M. (Chub) Richards,  at Catawba College.  It is presented each year to an outstanding student.

Clergy Appreciation Day is in February, we welcome about 20 members of the clergy.
Scholarship Day is in March
Good Samaritan Award is presented in April.
Senior Civitan Day is in April, we have 20 members with 25 or more years in the club. 
The Cliff Peeler High School Baseball Classic is sponsored in April
Teacher Appreciation Day is the first week in May.
The Curtis Hero Award, presented annually on our club's birthday to an heroic citizen(s) in our community.
Provide over 40 volunteers for Special Olympics each Spring
Sponsor Junior Civitan Clubs at Salisbury and West Rowan High Schools
Present Eight "Jack Knox" Good Citizenship Awards to Middle School recipients.
Support the A.R.C., 
The Boys and Girls Home,   The Nazareth Children's Home,
Shakers' Dance,   Duke Research Center,
The Civitan International Research Center in Alabama,  
Civisaurus (1st Grade books),
Sponsor the Civitan Rowan County Boy Scouts Show,    
We also respond and support another 10 - 20 needs per year in Rowan County, North Carolina, or Nationally....    previous projects include
:- the collection of tons of furniture for the Battered Women's  Shelter   /  Teddy Bears in Police Cars / Godstock, / Rowan Regional Medical Center's Pediatrics Wing:
